What Is Student Teaching?

Student teaching, also known as clinical practice, is the hands-on stage of becoming a teacher. It’s when you step into a real classroom and learn by doing.

You might assist with lesson planning and co-teach with your mentor until you gradually take on more responsibilities. You’ll also learn strategies to build confidence in classroom management and daily teaching tasks.

You will not do it alone. You’ll get support from a [GU1] teacher mentor, program supervisor, and school staff throughout your clinical practice.

Student teaching is typically unpaid, but California now offers a $10,000 stipend for eligible candidates. Find out if you qualify and learn how to apply.
